Volunteer Opportunities
We are currently recruiting spring food drive volunteers to support "The Original Door-to-Door Food Drive".

Starting Saturday April 13, the spring food drive runs both Saturdays and Sundays from 2:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

About
We are a registered charity of dedicated volunteers with a mission to end hunger and poverty in Scarborough through provision (food drives), education (public/school presentations) and action (fundraising).

1. Volunteers deliver information flyers to residents’ homes informing residents of the food drive and reminding them that RSFD volunteers will come to their homes the following Saturday and Sunday to pick up their food donations. Volunteers canvass residents’ homes for food donations and process donations in preparation for delivery to food banks and community organizations.
2. Volunteers work with adult supervisors and always travel in groups. We always meet in a school close to the target area we're canvassing to begin each shift, and we return to that meeting spot for dismissal at the end of the shift.
3. Training and safety orientation will be provided at the beginning of each shift.
4. This is an entry-level volunteer position with the potential for leadership opportunities with RSFDF. High school graduates are encouraged to apply for the role of “Supervisor”.
5. We welcome adults and community groups to join us.

Volunteer Expectations
Here are a few expectations on volunteer etiquette and procedures for everyone's safety.

1. Volunteers are instructed to only pick up food donations left outside the doors. There will be no door-knocking at any homes where donations were not left outside.

2. Masks are optional.

3. Snacks will be provided at the end of every shift. However, volunteers can bring their own snacks, especially if they have any dietary restrictions. Volunteers must bring their own water and water bottles.

4. Washroom facilities are very limited and will only be available on an emergency basis.

5. Cell phone use for student volunteers is strictly prohibited while on shift. That includes listening to music, talking, and texting. In case of an emergency, volunteers must inform their supervisors immediately.

6. All volunteers must arrive on time for their shifts. It will be difficult for latecomers to locate their groups once the groups disperse for canvassing and flyer distribution, and they will have missed all orientation and training instructions.

7.Volunteers will adhere to all procedures and follow supervisors' instructions at all times.

8. Orientation and training will be provided on-site at the beginning of every shift.

9. Volunteers don't need to sign up for a shift in advance. Simply show up on the day you're available, to the designated staging area, on time and ready to go. It's a good idea to arrive a few minutes before the start time.

10. Volunteers will receive a letter certifying their hours of service with RSFDF within two weeks after the end of the food drive.

11. High school graduates are encouraged to apply for the role of "Supervisor".
The need for food banks has never been direr! This is your opportunity to make a difference in the lives of families across the city.
