Our Story

In early 2019, after several food banks across Toronto, as a consequence of their diminished food inventory and an increase demand for food, made very public appeals for food donations, a group of long-serving food security activists, set about trying to establish an institutionalized response to the growing problem of hunger in their communities.

Further, aware of disturbing data published by Daily Bread Food Bank et al in their annual Who’s Hungry reports, similarly disturbing reports from Feed Ontario (formerly Ontario Food Banks), and Toronto Foundation’s Vital Signs annual reports that documented increased hunger and poverty across the GTHA, the decision to create a charity dedicated to the relief of poverty was conceptualized and later formalized in the incorporation of Rising Sun Food Drive Foundation (RSFDF).

Now, Rising Sun Food Drive Foundation is a non-profit organization, approved as a charity by the Public Guardian Trustee and subject to the Charities Accounting Act, with the legal authorization to execute purposes associated with the relief of poverty.
